Mobility in Unstructured Environments
RTT platforms are designed for mobility in unstructured environments. They provide a stable, rugged and reliable climbing platform over a wide range of surface geometries and surface conditions. The RTT platforms make use of compliant suspension mechanisms that distribute the climbing forces over a distributed region of the climbing surface in a prescribed manner. These are integrated into a mobile platform combined with a manipulator arm to achieve full tool mobility with coordinated control. We aggressively explore new sensors, sensor networks, and related strategies to improve our platform’s perception, cognition, learning, adaptation, haptics, autonomy, and multi-modal human-robot interaction. We strive to make our robotic platforms more intelligent, mobile, autonomous and adaptable.

RTT platforms are assistive technologies enabling humans to enhance and compensate for their capabilities. Our systems increase worker’s strength, endurance and accuracy. They help guide and interpret worker’s intent, make context based decisions, and allow people to operate beyond their diminished or normal physical, cognitive or sensory capabilities.
RTT commercial and research platforms incorporate a variety of machine learning approaches including human guided machine learning and artificial intelligence. Our platforms use their knowledge for planning, navigation and problem solving.
Many of RTT platforms can integrate computer vision systems that address the recognition and modeling of contours, shapes, regions, objects and activities. We have experience integrating our platforms with a variety of sensors that drive high resolution cameras, laser guidance systems and image processing software. The net results are vision based platforms that can be fully programmed and managed by industrial workers.
Controls and Dynamic Systems
RTT core platform software and systems incorporate field tested control algorithms and hardware designs and optimization based on task specific activities. Many of these control systems are reprogrammable by task or self-adjusting based on the platforms understanding of its operating environment.
