RTT has been awarded a Phase II SBIR Project under DOD SBIR program for a “High Capability Portable Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Removal System for Naval Aircraft”.
Background: The United States Marine Corps (USMC) spends over $20 million annually on foreign object debris (FOD) damages related to the AV-8B Program and the DOD up to 80 million more on other programs. RTT proposes a mechanized, semi-automated solution to clear and maintain FOD free workspace areas in targeted FOD problem areas
During the Phase I performance period, RTT designed, fabricated and tested an automated, robotic system to remove FOD in both indoor and outdoor regions, operating around aircraft, sunshades and other objects in hangars and apron regions. The testing of each system demonstrated that these robot systems are feasible to meet customer needs and can be produced and maintained at reasonable cost and maintenance burden.
The Phase II effort will advance the capability of these phase I designed systems and move into advanced field testing, implementation and commercialization.
