RTT is a recipient of Launch Tennessee’s SBIR Matching Program in 2018. The LaunchTN SBIR matching grand is funded by LaunchTN (via the State of Tennessee) to advance commercialization efforts via a matching of funding awarded to Tennessee based companies with successful SBIR a applications (from https://launchtn.org/).
RTT’s underlying SBIR grant is a phase II effort to automate FOD cleaning for the United States Marine Corps. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) spends over $20 million annually on foreign object debris (FOD) damages related to the AV-8B Program alone and the DOD up to 80 million more on other programs. RTT has developed a mechanized, semi-automated solution to clear and maintain FOD free workspace areas in around targeted FOD problem areas. RTT is developing specialized tooling, integral mobile robot platforms, and algorithms to detect, clear, track and map FOD during the entire clearing process. As part of the SBIR match program, RTT is collaborating with in-state companies to commercialize robotic and detection and manipulation technologies that flow out of the robotic FOD cleaning work to unique opportunities in our state in manufacturing and transportation sectors.
